Educating Fathers

Every father wants to be a good dad.  But let's face it, being a father today is not easy.  The Fatherhood Initiative will help you learn what it takes to be the best dad you can.

Our program is based on the idea that both parents are responsible for supporting their children.  You will learn how to meet the emotional and financial needs of your children by attending our free six-week education and counseling Program.

Equipping Fathers

The Fatherhood Initiative offers:

  • Help with vocational training
  • Job search and interviewing skills
  • Anger management and counseling
  • Annual health physicals
  • Parenting education
  • Legal education
  • Money management
  • Peer support
  • Housing (when available)
  • Alcohol/substance abuse recovery

Engaging Fathers

Our program helps each father develop personally and socially.  The program provides information and education on healthy lifestyles, anger management, life skills and violence prevention.  Fathers will receive case management services to monitor progress, coordinate services, and provide additional support when needed.

Before graduation, we encourage our fathers to join ongoing support groups within the community.

WRITTEN TESTIMONIALS

Out of the Fatherhood program I got the knowledge and wisdom to help myself face child support problems and help myself become a better man and father.  Also I gained the sense of how to help others and share information with individuals that my need some help. What I like about the Fatherhood program is the unity working together with a group of brothers that share their knowledge about certain issues.  This allows for us to discuss the problems that we may have in common.  The togetherness and the meditation along with praying daily has made me a better man and father.

What I got out of the program is the valued information that I can use to improve my situation.  This step is critical for my future stability and well being. What I like about the program is the relationships I found with the other classmates.  I formed a brotherhood that can last a lifetime. The was not much if anything I didn’t like about the program other than it could have been a bit longer.

-Hulsey

I took this class to learn about the new laws of child support and to gain other information that can guide me in the right direction.  With this I can keep myself out of jail and having a felony on my record. I also learned a lot of information on jobs and how to go about taking the right steps to a good paying job. The class itself also is helpful to getting yourself clean and free of drugs and alcohol through a step by step process.  This has shown me that it starts with you and you have to give 110% and put the most important thing first being GOD who is GOOD.

What I got out of the program was an abundance of information on reconnecting with self and my children finding my hitch in this world as well as humbling myself, and dealing with my problems in a more adult way versus running from them and adding more to. What I liked about the program was the fellowship with the brothers in the class, the honesty and encouragement from staff and the overall good feeling of knowing the change is coming and I now the amour to fight battle and the confidence to know how I’m going to win.
